OSLW EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
MARCH 4, 2007
(rescheduled due to snowstorm)

PRESENT: Denise Bakkum, Penny Carlson, Beth Bakkum, Donna Bourcy, Renai Ehrichs, Ruth Buschette, Marcie Felix, Virginia Moses, & Joy Wohlrabe

Meeting agenda, secretary’s report, & treasurer’s report all approved. Penny has paid the deposit on countertops.

OLD BUSINESS: Women’s retreat at Mt. Carmel was cancelled due to weather. The camp gave us alternative dates of March 10th -11th and March 24th – 25th. Of the two dates March 10th -11th is probably the best in terms of the number of groups the camp is accommodating that weekend. Board was unclear if the speaker that was secured by Pam & Kathy for the original weekend would be available. This needs to be checked out and calls need to be made to those who had signed up before to see if they would be able to go this next weekend. Contact will be made with camp regarding their policy on holding deposit for next year if women unable to make alternative retreat date. It was noted that Kathy Byers and Pam Astrup have worked very hard planning the retreat and if there would be another way to experience what they have put together that would be great. The possibility of doing some of it for the Mother/Daughter event was brought up. This would need to be discussed with Kathy and Pam to see what they think.

Service Group Revamping: Donna Bourcy reported they had a wonderful turnout for the March Service Group since going to the combined service group list. Because of the increase in participation of each family unit assigned for a particular month the possibility of changing the dollar amount from $10.00 to $7.00 and the furnishing of 3 dozen cookies to 5 dozen cookies per family will probably be done. Donations requested by Churches United will come out of monthly serving group rather than separate donations. Meeting dates and when letter needs to get sent out needs to be clarified with office.

Kitchen: island countertops have been installed and faucet is in but electrical work hasn’t been done yet. Renai will call Tom at Magnum Electric to get confirmation on date to expect electrical work to be done.

Funeral pricing: Denise checked with funeral home on what is suggested per plate for funeral lunch. $1.00 per plate is charged to non-members and for members of the church a donation amount is suggested. Donna indicated that because cake and buns are donated the suggested $1.00 amount is still ok.

Fundraiser: brochure of glass ball ornaments along with wood carved ornaments looked at by Board with the decision to purchase 150 of each. Both ornaments would have the church steeple along with church name printed on them. A stand will also be ordered for display of the ball ornament. If ordered by March 15th a discount is applied. Beth to do further checking on color choice and printing and will place order. The ornaments would make great gifts for any occasion.

Nominations: Denise reminded us to keep thinking of women to serve on OSLW Board. The position of Vice President and Fellowship and Service need to be filled by next fall.

NEW BUSINESS: Synodical Convention is scheduled for June 15 & 16 at Hope Lutheran in Fergus Falls. We need to have someone go to this. “Young Woman” Scholarship is also recognized at this convention. Nominations are being sought for this scholarship award.

Salad Luncheon: Tentative dates of either Sunday April 15th or 22nd. Sign up sheets for salads and soup ingredients will be done again this year. Circles will be asked to furnish bars. Will discuss further at April meeting.

Mother/Daughter Event: tabled until next meeting. Event is scheduled for Saturday May 12, 2007 in the morning.

OSLW Board to meet April 5, 2007 at 7:00 PM. Renai Ehrichs to do devotions.
